Brain-Computer Interfaces: The Infrastructure Race

Priced, coded and regulated ahead of the sales. Issue 02

“The next phase of BCI will be defined by more than technology alone.”

Michael Mager, Co-founder and CEO, Precision Neuroscience, 24 September 2026

However fast AI and networks are today, a digital bit still has to be read by an eye, heard by an ear, or typed by a thumb. In the six months to 30 September, companies started putting money and code behind the channels into and out of the human brain.

The world's first approved invasive brain-computer interface sold thirteen sets in its first three months of sales. But the larger commercial opening came outside the operating room: a developer toolkit, money for brain-data models, a prescription headset used at home and new privacy law. That is where most businesses will meet this technology first.

For invasive implants, the institutions are well ahead of the sales. BCIs are being priced, coded and regulated before they are sold.

Dargentic Intelligence Issue 02 sets out what actions to take over the next 6–18 months.

Signal Classification

Relevant coverage in this report is accompanied by a signal box, graded by how soon it calls for action:

Inflection (Near-term: 0 to 6 months).

Structural change. Requires strategic response.

Momentum (Mid-term: 6 to 18 months).

Accelerating trend. Position now.

Horizon (Long-term: 18 months+).

Early indicator. Track and plan, do not act prematurely.

“Public investors are pricing neurotech on revenue, while private BCI capital is still pricing on promise.”

Naveen Rao is the founder of Neurotech Futures, a publication and business ecosystem reaching thousands of readers worldwide, and writes about neurotechnology for Forbes.

Eight findings.

From the Executive Brief, page 4.

  1. Businesses can now build on neural input. Meta made its Neural Band toolkit generally available on September 30; Neurable licenses EEG sensing to hardware makers. Apple agreed to buy Sonera’s sensor assets; no product announced. p12
  2. Feelings are on sale before brain data can prove them. Prophetic takes orders for dream headbands from $449 and Truvaga earned $1.3 million in a quarter selling calm. Ad tools measure emotion from faces and self-reports; the brain-response models we cover are non-commercial or unbuilt. pp18–19
  3. Brain models arrive ahead of brain devices. Hemispheric trained a model on more than 250,000 hours of EEG and behavioral recordings; Conduit advertises $50 a session to collect its own. p16
  4. Capital repriced the category ahead of implant sales. Secondary trades reported in July valued Neuralink at $29–42 billion; Precision closed $250 million. pp8–10
  5. Payment is now the constraint for approved products. China coded its first invasive BCI two days after approval; the United States proposed a Medicare pathway and a procedure code; most developers still face clinical and regulatory gates. p15
  6. The first disclosed BCI sales record: thirteen sets. Neuracle told the Shanghai Stock Exchange on September 29 that it had 13 sets sold, 8 implanted since July. Each set is listed at RMB 475,000, with no basic-insurance cover (p15). p24
  7. The brain became a national-security line item. A congressional commission, a White House strategy, a BIS export settlement and two proposed cognitive-warfare mandates arrived by early September. p22
  8. BCIs can be attacked, and support is not guaranteed. A September preprint set out five families of attack on AI-powered BCIs, from forged signals to backdoored decoders. No supplier we reviewed commits to support beyond its exit. p26

Competitive Map.

Implant sales have begun at Neuracle; most capital is still in trials.

About this report.

Dargentic Intelligence tracks the commercial, regulatory and strategic implications of brain-computer interfaces. We publish twice-yearly intelligence reports for business leaders, investors and policymakers in the industries the neural channel will reach.

The analysis draws on regulatory filings, exchange disclosures, clinical trial registries, legislative records, funding disclosures and direct engagement with the BCI industry. Key figures are labeled by evidence grade: measured, company-reported, planned or undisclosed.

Dargentic Intelligence is editorially independent and does not accept funding or sponsorship from the companies it covers.
